Top Three GPS Systems 2010 – A Review
GPS Buyers Guide, GPS Reviews | GPS Software Hub | December 29, 2009 at 3:29 pm
Less than a decade ago most motorists had to rely on road maps, a sense of direction and a modicum of luck in order to safely navigate their way around the country. Nowadays, as GPS technology reaches maturity and the availability of low-cost GPS sat nav units is extremely high, many could not imagine their lives before GPS made travelling painless and hassle-free. It is now almost impossible to pick up a decent mobile phone that lacks GPS functions and so market saturation is almost complete.
Since most big manufacturers have been producing quality products that perform the basic navigation functions perfectly for a few years now, most are looking to new features in order to attract customers and advance the potential of GPS systems. As such here is a quick look at the latest and greatest GPS systems that will gain reputations in 2010.
Garmin Nuvi 1690
This is the top of the range Nuvi navigation system from Garmin and it has more than a few tricks up its sleeve. On top of extensive mapping, the 1690 has access to the nuLink services, which delivers up to the minute information for traffic, road works, delays and local petrol prices.
You can also search for local services, find out what time a movie is on in the nearest cinema or search the telephone book and find the number you need when you need it. The 1690 also has fuel efficiency in mind when it plans routes, with the ecoRoute system guiding you and keeping tabs on your consumption.
TomTom GO 950 LIVE
Like the Garmin product above this new TomTom GPS system integrates advanced connectivity in order to provide local search functions, as well as having TomTom`s IQ Routes software guiding you and providing you with accurate arrival times based on average speeds collated by other TomTom users. You can even benefit from the convenient voice controlled interface which allows you to keep your hands on the wheel at all times.
The LIVE services require a subscription, although the first month is included free when you purchase the GO 950. If you choose to give up the LIVE services after the first month you can still enjoy the excellent mapping and route planning software.
NavMan S300T
The S300T from NavMan is an incredibly well designed piece of kit, with a thin bezel and a widescreen display which looks more like a photograph frame than a GPS system. 3D landmarks and informative 3D views of difficult-to-navigate junctions in the road are included in the extensive mapping and the touch screen interface allows for intuitive interaction with the menu and the map when you are on the road.
Some contract phones include free GPS systems these days and GPS software for mobile phones is always improving, so if you want an all in one solution it might be worth checking in your pocket to see if you are already prepared for all of your GPS needs.
